A Secret World

Our UPS guy flagged me down the other day: “Hey Olivia! This box came for your house but I don’t think it’s yours. Do you know who it’s for?” I looked down and saw my address but the recipient’s name said “VIP/Influencer.” I laughed and said “I think it’s for me.” He looked at me with a confused face. This is someone who sees me everyday, usually out of breath from hauling my kids and their many things everywhere and almost always wearing sweatpants. “Trust me, I’m just as confused as you are,” I replied with a smile.
Sometimes I feel like I created a secret world in the little spaces that full-time motherhood allowed me to excavate. This is especially true when a pile of packages gifted from brands turns up on my doorstep. I’m really not sure what to call myself these days. I was a publicist turned fashion founder turned full-time mom, turned… I always draw a blank at this next part. I’m not a traditional influencer in that I like to write essays that have nothing to do with buying things. I’m not a traditional writer in that I like to write about white tees and kid’s water bottles. Maybe I’m somewhere in between? My favorite part about creating in a grey area is that there are no rules. I’m really just doing my own little thing. This is probably why it feels surprising to me (+ my UPS guy) when a brand I love wants to work together. They can see this secret world too? It’s not just me here?
When a brand sends me a gift that I try and love, the first thing I do is ask them for a discount code for you. I do this because it feels like such a win win. I earn a commission when you use my code and you get to shop new arrivals and otherwise full-priced things at a special discount. I’ve been wanting to compile a list, “a code library”, of these discount codes for awhile now so you can easily refer back to it when you’re shopping.
