Under the Oaks: A Dose of Energy

It's the month that asks us what our work is.

Welcome to Under the Oaks, a quiet place to sit and read in the Land of Oaks and Roses.

Henry George Hoyland, Garden Scene, 1925-1935

September is my favorite month. It feels like a dose of energy. It's the month that asks us what our work is. And tells us to focus. Not in the way your teacher spoke to you about doing better in a class that you hated (just me?) But in the way an unrealized dream whispers to you in the shower.

We all want to do more of the work that’s really ours, and less of the work that’s not. September reminds us that we actually want our work. We want to contribute, create, change, grow! I’m not talking about blindly working harder. We know how unamazing it feels to move “up,” but in the wrong direction for the life you honestly want. I’m talking about something else.
