What lasts when everything changes?
History, heritage and human hands in style.
Welcome to At the Market, your place to browse what’s in season in Land of Oaks and Roses.
Hello friends, and welcome back! I just saw Devil Wears Prada 2 (so good!) I went with some of my closest friends who I met working at Prada years and years and years ago. It was crazy to watch Andy Sachs all grown up with the people I grew up in fashion with. It brought back so many memories! And it brought up everything that’s changed. The movie kept coming back to a timely question: What lasts when everything changes?
Today’s At the Market is about style that’s lasted. There’s comfort in wearing something that humans have found beautiful for thousands of years. It’s the same draw that makes us want to read a physical book, or write something down by hand.
Read on for history, heritage, and human hands in style…
1: Chinese Pankou knots date back to the Song Dynasty (that’s over a thousand years ago.) This top + matching shorts are on my forever warm weather mood board. More like this: This top and this jacket from Massimo Dutti, this Kallmeyer jacket (dream!) And if you want the forever classic its Shanghai Tang.
2: Cano is the only jeweler authorized to replicate from the Museum of Bogotá. The Colombian heritage brand takes it’s inspiration from the indigenous cultures that existed in Colombia before it was Colombia. More like this: These little starfish earrings inspired by the Tairona culture's connection to the sea. And this ring that feels like a tiny ancient sculpture.
3: Turquoise has been used in jewelry for over five thousand years. Considered sacred by Native Americans, it’s known for protection and healing. More like this: Turquoise that reminds me of puka shells.
4: Marlies Grace is inspired by vintage fashion archives. More like this: I just saw this tassel necklace on Kelly Williams - looked incredible! A similar, but more dressed up version of the Marlies Grace bag. And how sweet is this for summer date night?
5: This dress is inspired by 18th-century interiors. More like this: An easy to wear top. And an insanely beautiful top for a special night out.
In partnership with J.Crew, these are my top 3 picks from their new summer collection: linen pull-on pants ($98), this pretty bag ($128) and this gold/chocolate brown scrunchie one-piece ($141.) Pieces I will wear on repeat come summer!
