Olivia this is GORGEOUS 😭 Truly gave me all the feels. I want to underline and highlight every bit of it.
(Also, the grape slicing! My 11-month-old boy is a fast eater so I'm constantly double checking the slices/sizes of everything before I place his plate in front of him and it's too late.)
Thank you Miriam! Writing it gave me so much. I love that I get to pass that feeling onto other people 💙 Also, my youngest is almost 2.5 and I’m sorry to report that the grape slicing is still going on at our house! 😅
Oh how I love: “There’s power in repeatedly loving yourself because the world doesn’t see…” So very true! If only the world could recognize us mothers as deeply as you clearly do, Olivia!
Mothering our children is sacred.
As is learning to Mother ourselves. May we all heal the wounded parts of us, based on falsehoods that didn’t belong to us, to begin with. 🙏
So beautiful I’m crying! every word resonated so deeply and I feel seen 🤍 I’ve only been a mother for 3 months and even during pregnancy I felt like unseen by other people and somehow wanted my effort to be more acknowledged in some way (like people understanding my tiredness and occasional mood swings) but it really struck when you said “there’s power in repeatedly loving yourself because the world doesn’t see” and every else as well! thank you for writing this 🤍
Whoa. I just found you through Satya Doyle Byock’s newsletter, and what a gift this essay is! Just whoa. It’s moved me to tears because I feel exactly the same. The noise “out there” is so loud, it often leaves me wondering if I’m alone in my experience. I am so happy to know you and be here!
WOW. This stunned me. You summed up motherhood so beautifully well. This line: “We'll have a deep understanding of what power was really made for. We'll be mothers.” Yes
This was such a beautiful read. I LOVE the invitation back tot he power that is yours - perhaps not because society recognizes it for you but because every ounce of you proves to yourself just how capable you are in the world, every day.

LOL nooo! I assumed we would be moving on from this much sooner than that 😂🙈

Thank you Anne! That's the best thing about writing. It tends to show us how not alone we really are. x

I don't even buy grapes. lol.
Also the no grape policy is a genius move!

Thank you! And yes, exactly. x
